This is instant???

by Laurin Evans

on September 2, 2010 in Identity

I have only been drinking coffee for the past eight years or so. Before that, it was a tall glass of Coke on ice with a straw every morning. That was my wake up beverage of choice for years. I would order Coke at breakfast and get funny looks from servers standing over me with [...]

Food Snob

by Laurin Evans

on August 24, 2010 in Playing House

I’m a bit of a food snob. Not in the I’m a foodie way, because there is nothing I love more than eating at a dive-ish burger joint or getting a blue plate meal at the counter of a country grocery store. I’m a snob when it comes to buying brands at the store. Even [...]

WTF Betty White?

by Laurin Evans

on August 12, 2010 in Pop Culture

I love Betty White to death, but c’mon, what is that bitch smoking? Honestly. Every time I turn on E! News or The Daily 10, there she is looking fresh as a daisy. Her latest project is guest starring on Community with Joel McHale (love), and I just do not understand where she gets the [...]

EZPZ Appetizers for Unexpected Guests

by Laurin Evans

on August 4, 2010 in EZPZ

We’ve all been there. Some friends drop by unexpectedly and all you have to serve is freezer-burned mini-quiches from 200?. I keep goat cheese in my fridge and table water crackers and tomato sauce in my pantry so I always, always have a delicious appetizer on hand that takes very little time to prepare. The [...]

Hi, my name is Kim Basinger

by Laurin Evans

on July 28, 2010 in Identity

I am a terrible drinker. Or I am terribly bad at drinking, I should say. Drinking is something I typically do only at parties or on special occasions, and it’s like playing Russian roulette in terms of how the evening will turn out. Sometimes alcohol doesn’t taste right, so I nurse one drink all night. [...]

Very Superstitious

Whenever I’m faced with a worry or fear, I give it a voice. Doing this makes me feel better, like I’m taking the power of my fear away by saying it out loud. I’m not superstitious about other things, but if I have a worrisome thought that something bad might happen in a situation, I absolutely have to tell someone not to do the “thing.”

Great iPhone Apps for BlogHer ’10 in New York City

by Laurin Evans

on July 14, 2010 in Nerdgasm

Most of the Aiming Low gals will be in New York City in August for BlogHer ’10. I am incredibly excited about going this year because I have never been to NYC, but I’m concerned about getting lost and not making it back to the hotel in one piece. I also want to make sure I do and see as many cool things as possible in the limited time I will be there.

Mean Mom?

MEAN MOM?

Remember hearing “Go outside and play!” when you were a kid? My mother meant business. I would play until dark when I would come running home, hungry as a bear. I would then gobble up what my mother served us without complaint, even if it wasn’t my favorite thing in the dinner rotation.

Tales From Outpatient Surgery

by Laurin Evans

on June 28, 2010 in Identity

I had a colonoscopy last Wednesday. The results were normal, so life goes on, with the only losses being some of my dignity and an entire day of missed eating opportunities. I also spent the better part of a day in my bathroom during the bowel prep phase, but I was finally able to finish the Twilight saga books. So there’s that. If you talked to me on the phone that day I was, most assuredly, in the bathroom.

Torture, Husband-Style

by Laurin Evans

on June 14, 2010 in Love Life

Well, I’m back from my mini-vacation and I’ve never been so tired. I didn’t stay up late partying (much) or travel halfway around the world, I just got no sleep whatsoever because of my husband’s snoring. He has always snored, but it’s like I’m suddenly allergic to it after years of chronic exposure.
