Snowed In

You may or may not know this, but I am a big fan of date nights. It’s true, I absolutely love having a night alone with my beautiful lady.

What you might not know about me is that every two weeks, I get a date weekend, and I love them even more.

This weekend was one such weekend and the weather was horrible. There was a state of emergency called for our area, so we were just going to hole up and wait out the storm in the cocoon.

We had a good supply of chips, ice cream, steaks, glaucoma cookies, and Coffee House radio on Slacker, plus no children. Gonna be a pretty good weekend, right?

Wrong! I forgot to mention that I started getting sick on Friday night, and by Saturday morning I had the full blown flu.

“But Birdman, that’s impossible. You got the flu shot a couple of months ago. Your doctor told you that if you got the shot you wouldn’t get, or carry the influenza virus.”

My doctor is a fucking liar.

Oh he’s a nice enough guy, but he’s still a dirty lying rat.

So anyhow, my weekend consisted of horribly aching joints and kidneys, fever, chills, headaches, coughing, sneezing, and about 55 psi of sinus pressure. I was in and out of consciousness for most of Saturday and also Sunday morning. I drank my weight in water and OJ, and I didn’t even want to drink a coffee. I think my body knows when it needs nutrients, because I was craving vegetables, fruit, and soup. Luckily my baby had made a big pot of chowder with bacon, potatoes, carrots, yams, and corn in it, so I was set for the duration.

She took really good care of me with everything I needed. She is one of the best nurses that I’ve ever had, but that could have been that she kissed me a lot, and would let me touch her boob if I asked her to. I might have to give her my puppy dog eyes, but I’m pretty confident.

I think that you get a pretty good line on a person when they have to look after you when you are sick, and you can tell when people are doing things because they have to, or because they want to. From the way she acted and the way she rubbed my back, I’d say she was doing it out of love.

As the kids would say:

Best snow day EVER!

About ChrisBird

A self proclaimed "free thinker", Chris has spent most of his life doing what he wants. He wears lovely velour shirts at will, and he rarely brushes his teeth. If you find something at a thrift store that you feel needs to be modelled, please let him know, and he will tell you where to send it. When he is not being whimsical, he can be found in “The Cocoon” with his forgiving wife, and his dog Blue. Well, except for when it’s time for romance, that’s when Blue has to skedaddle. You only make that mistake once. He can be found at Change The Topic, on the ultra-cool Google+, The Twitter, and sadly, Facebook.
