I Heart The Doctor

I never thought of myself as a fangirl.

Band geek? Of course. (In case you were wondering, I played the flute and NO, I did not go to band camp.)

School nerd? Absolutely. (Totally not a humblebrag: I graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA.)

But a fangirl? Not really.

And then in the summer of 2011 I watched my first episode of the 2005 reboot of Doctor Who. I was instantly hooked. I wanted to watch and rewatch episodes as often as I could. I’m such a sucker for British accents. And when you add the ability to go anywhere in the universe at any point in time, I can’t help but think hells yes. Everyone has their obsessions and Doctor Who became mine.

How do I know that it’s an obsession as opposed to just liking something a whole lot?

  1. I’ve spent countless hours scouring YouTube for Doctor Who videos and reading Doctor Who blogs.
  2. I dressed up as the T.A.R.D.I.S. for Halloween.
  3. I would be totally stoked if my husband built me one.
  4. If I wasn’t already married I would want to use these as my save the dates.
  5. I will share almost anything Doctor Who related I find in my Google Reader on Google Plus (contrary to popular belief, it’s not a ghost town), Twitter, and Facebook.
  6. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to all things Geektastic. The board is probably 85% filled with Doctor Who stuff.
  7. I would wear this skirt but not to a costume party. I’d wear it to the grocery store, credit union, or to my annual  ob/gyn exam. I consider it everyday wear.
  8. I find myself quoting or referencing Doctor Who on my personal blog at least once a week.
  9. I’ve tried fish fingers and custard. Not something I would eat on a regular basis but not that bad.
  10. I get über excited when a new episode airs. The anticipation of it all and the joy when the day finally arrives, it’s kind of like Christmas for me.
  11. I developed a harmless crush on the 10th Doctor. He rocks a pin-striped suit and trainers like nobody’s business. He has great hair. His pronunciation of the words what and allons-y are unbelievably adorable. And I may or may not have had several slightly inappropriate dreams about him.

These days, I don’t mind if others call me a fangirl.

And I love it when someone calls me a Whovian.

Guys and gals, tell me, what’s your obsession?

I agree with 1-11, except that the 11th is my favorite because he was my first. I’m dying for that skirt!

    • Arbine says:

Eleven was actually my first Doctor and I think he’s super adorable too. But there’s just something about Ten that makes my heart go pitter-patter.

As for the skirt, I think I’m just gonna have to spend the money and actually buy it. :)

Have you seen the fish fingers cookies? Then you can have fish fingers and custard, well, without the fish. ;)

    Have not made them… yet.

    Oh yeah, the tenth doctor.
I’ve been watching since the Tom Baker years when is was a kid. They played episodes on PBS when I was a kid.
I wouldn’t say I was a fan girl, but I do have a cover for my kindle made with TARDIS-print fabric.
And a board on Pinterest with a lot of Doctor Who pins.
But I can take it or leave it. ;)

I love me all things doctor who. I love Ten, but I’m starting to watch the old ones and I’m loving #4

  5. Hello, fellow Whovian! I have been a Doctor Who fan since the 80′s. My whole family used to watch it on PBS. That incarnation had a freaky fro. Oh, and ever wonder where Harry Potter got his impossibly long scarf? Doctor Who, of course!

I totally want to build my own TARDIS now that I’ve seen that video and I’m almost certain we will be doing family costumes for Halloween a ‘la The Doctor. Although, what would my 7 year old dress as? LOL

I do have other obsessions, The Doctor is only one of them. My main obsession, since I was 11 years old, is Rick Springfield. Don’t laugh, he’s fabulous. I also have a thing for Andy Garcia and Shemar Moore. :D

For your 7-year-old, maybe a Weeping Angel or a young Amy Pond with the suitcase? Rick Springfield is a totally fine obsession. I used to have a MAJOR crush on Jon Bon Jovi when I was younger. And actually, he’s still pretty cute.

  6. Oh my gosh. Don’t even get me started on my Doctor Who obsession. I’m proud to be a Whovian! :D

We haven’t watched it, yet. After seeing so many pins I don’t get, I’ve put it in my Netflix queue.

My LOTR geeks are digging their heels in.

I say just give it a try. Personally, I think the first couple of episodes aren’t the greatest, but don’t let that deter you. Give it at least 5 episodes or so to really decide if you really like it or not.

I love LOTR too. My favorite character is Éowyn. :)

God I love who! And Sherlock, Sherlock is genius

    • Arbine says:

OMG, I am obsessed with Sherlock too! Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are so great together. And the writing is freakin’ brilliant.

My teenager got me hooked on the Doctor. I have a crush on 10 as well. David Tennant is just beyond adorable. This year my kids dressed up as 9, 10 & 11 for Halloween. They were beyond awesome. If I hadn’t had a class that night, I would have totally gone as the TARDIS.

I lived in England for several years. Unfortunately, it was during the years that Doctor Who wasn’t on. At least new episodes. Pity.

  10. I have to admit I’ve never been bitten by the Dr. Who bug. I had a close friend in the 90s who was all into it and that was my first introduction to it. But I am a full fledged band geek! I played flute too – yo! solidarity – and I went to band camp. Luckily, I was never subjected to the band camp initiation swirly, so it could be worse!

The 10th Doctor will forever be my favorite! But I miss Russell T. Davies, as well. I think his writing, at least in part, made David Tennant’s run the most awesome.
