If I knew then what I know now
I would have had more fun
Showed the others how
My smile brought the sun.
I could have been the one to follow
The girl who made the others fall in line
But perhaps that victory would have been hollow
As no one’s opinion is more important than mine.
With confidence under my belt
And maturity in my mind
I could have made all the boys melt
And aced any class I was assigned.
If I knew then what I know now
I could have been more relaxed
Could have taken my well-earned bow
And not seen my fragile ego taxed.
I’d have known this basic truth
That we all have a different light to give the world
Even in the midst of unsettling youth
Or whether our hair is straight or curled.
If I knew then what I know now
High school would have been a breeze
Looking back I’ll make a vow
To put other girls at ease.
You’ll make it through, I promise this
You will blossom and bloom
Go on to find your bliss
The world will make room.

I love, love, love, love, love this.

Fantastic reflection. High school was okay for one of mine and brutal for the other. I told them sometimes we bloom later. Hindsight.
School was fine for me too, but I bloomed in college, and then again after having my son.
Oh, but if I could go back!

If I knew then what I know now, I think I would have been a better student. I was decent, but not as great as I had the potential to be.
Loved this.
