Have you ever done squats? If not, good for you. You’re smart. Squats are dumb. You can continue living with happy, pain-free thighs.
I, unfortunately, am not that lucky. I did squats. Not on purpose or anything. It’s just that I’m a photographer and sometimes I photograph kids. Kids are great and all, but did you know? They are SHORT. Short, man. Which means that I have to squat. Like, a lot.
After spending my Saturday morning photographing 5 children under the age of 4, I almost died while trying to get out of bed Sunday morning. I called 911 right away, because I needed groceries and I thought maybe they’d deliver me some. It was an emergency, after all. I mean, I really couldn’t walk! My thighs screamed every time I tried! Turns out that 911 doesn’t deliver anything but angry looking policeman telling you not to waste their time, MA’AM.
Excuse me? Ma’am? Did they just call me old?
Anyway, I was in pain, but I had dinner plans that required bread, so I made this super simple, cheater-pants version of my Cheesy Bacon Ranch Pull Apart Bread. This version only takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and really couldn’t be easier. It’s great if you’re skeered of yeast, since you start with a loaf of store bought sourdough bread. Personally, I think yeast is fun. Like a science experiment without the angry science teacher giving you dirty looks. Yes, I’m talking about you, Mrs. G.
Cheesy Bacon Ranch Bread
- 1 round or square loaf sourdough bread
- 8-12 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
- 5 slices bacon
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Slice the bread lengthwise and then widthwise without cutting into the bottom of the bread. This is pretty simple going one direction, but when you switch directions it gets a bit tougher. Just hold the bread tightly and do your best.
- Place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Place the cheese slices between the cuts of bread. Really fill in the bread with as much cheese as you can fit.
- Chop the bacon into 1/2 inch pieces and fry over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan and pour the bacon grease over the top of the bread. (This is optional, but highly recommended. Bacon grease tastes like heaven, y’all.)
- Push the bacon pieces in the bread evenly.
- Melt the butter and then stir in the ranch seasoning. Pour evenly over the top of the bread.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Hey – great minds think alike. We make this too! http://www.plainchicken.com/2011/07/cheddar-bacon-ranch-pulls.html

At last someone as mouthy as me. Love the writing. Hate the pup poop. I think I’ll try this bread with some store-bought bread dough I bake up.
This sounds really good but will use different bread. Do not like sourdough at all.
I will most certainly get the hubs to make this this weekend. My bubblegut and thighs thank you.

Damn! I wish that I could reach through my computer screen and eat some of that.
I guess the next best thing would be to make it myself.

Oh I know squats all too well. I only do them so I can eat pint after pint of ice cream and not feel bad (it SO works that way). Or loaf after loaf of this bread…same difference.
Oh…my. All of my favorite words combined together – cheesy…bacon…ranch…and bread!! I can’t even comprehend the goodness. Now someone needs to come over and make it for me :).
