Be Your Own Barista, No Seriously.

I love coffee.

I could drink it all day long, especially from the cute little baristas at my favorite coffee place that we recently got in our small town.

Sadly, even with their new ‘Come back later and get a cup a bit cheaper program,’ my husband frowns upon me spending all of his hard earned money on coffee.  I know, I know he is such a buzz kill.  I did what any girl would do in this situation, no not pout or hide the cups in the trash, I created my own drink.  Now I am sharing it with you.

For the cost of about two Ventis you can make my mochaliciousness goodness at home in just minutes.  No, seriously.

What you will need

1 jar of good instant coffee. My go-tos are Trader Joe’s Instant Decaf or Cafe BuenDia! by Juan Valdez. (feel free to use the non decaf versions)

Non Dairy Powder Creamer

1 jar of Hershey’s Special Dark Hot Fudge Sundae Sauce. (You can use chocolate milk powder or syrup if you would like)

Sugar

Hot water. I personally think that my tea pot makes the best hot water, but you can just microwave some up.

Milk, Almond Milk, Soy milk…..some sort of milk in whatever kind and % you would like.

A decent sized mug

While your water is boiling take a tablespoon out (I use the larger one that we have in our silverware set-the girls call them my coffee spoons) and gather up all of you items, you know except the hot water because you are getting that ready right now.

In the bottom of the mug put in one spoonful of the coffee, one spoonful of creamer, a half spoonful of sugar, a tiny scoop of the fudge sauce.  I eyeball it but it is probably about a 1/4 of  the spoon.

Once your water is boiling fill up the mug about 2/3 of the way up and stir.  Once the fudge sauce is not on the spoon anymore you are pretty well mixed up.

Top off with your milk or milk alternative and enjoy!

Variations

Pour over ice for an iced mocha.

For a peppermint mocha add one drop of Peppermint extract to the cup.  Just one drop though, because not only is it strong, it is 89% alcohol, so don’t share that drink with the kiddies.

Come up with a good Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe (like at Starbucks…my biggest fall/winter weakness) and I will worship the ground you walk on AND hump your leg the next time we meet.

    • So I told the husband that I needed to go to Starbucks for work so I could try the pumpkin spiced latte…..he was game. Gosh, I need to throw this whole ‘for work’ thing into other conversations.

Also will there be video taping of the said humping-you know for work reasons?

  3. I make cheater mochachinos all the time at the local convenience chain (Wawa). I pour hot chocolate from the machine (already whipped and ready to drink!) and pour in coffee. VOILA! Cheater Mochas!

I do that too, whenever I stop at the gas station! I also make my own cheater flavor mochas by nuking some chocolate milk to mix with my coffee at home- I buy syrups at the store (or make my own, which is easier than it sounds) to mix into the coffee, add the chocolate milk and heat for 30-45 seconds. Poor man’s caramel macchiato or peppermint mocha!
