Do Something Once a Week That Makes You Slightly Uncomfortable.

Eleanor Roosevelt was an admirable woman who was an inspiration to the public in
the 1940’s. I highly respect her for her strength, perseverance, and paving the way for
future First Ladies. A close friend of mine recently sent me one of her thought provoking
quotes. “Do Something Once a Day that Scares You.”

A few days after receiving this quote, I found that it was still floating around in my head.

How could my life change if I try to do this?

By doing something every day that scares me, could I build courage?

Could I build character?

I decided to do it.

It has been a couple of weeks now and I am concerned that it has lead me to be neurotic, paranoid and I may have even increased my blood pressure. Every single day, I set out to do something that scares
me.

Yesterday, I leaped down a staircase in heels. I landed it, but it left me in a sweat and frankly a little lightheaded. The day before yesterday, I didn’t stop at any red traffic lights while running errands on my lunch break. I just powered through them ferociously like Seabiscuit eyeing the finish line.

Other attempts at doing something once a day that scares me have been walking outdoors with a golf club high in the air during a lightening storm, standing in the mailroom at work opening my bosses’ mail and reading it out loud, and drinking a cup of lake water while out on a canoe.

I’m starting to question the theory of this challenge.

At this rate, I will soon be sick, unemployed, in the hospital, or dead. I am therefore changing Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote to “Do Something Once a Week That Makes You Feel Slightly Uncomfortable”.

This is a much safer option for me while still helping me reach outside of my comfort zone.
