You guys, I have to tell you a secret.
I got an airplane today to go to San Diego for 6 days and 5 nights away from my family - and I couldn’t be happier.
I mean, yes, there is BlogHer. Blah blah awesome blah blah Come As You Are party blah blah I’m speaking blah blah blah.
But mostly?
Oh my God, you guys, I have been with my family non-stop for two months and I am going to cry if I don’t get just one full day away from them.
I know.
I KNOW. I am a horrible, awful mother and wife. I know.
But we sleep in the same room.
We eat, read, write, watch TV, fart, talk on the phone, play video games, and pretend to be thinking about stuff all in the same room. ONE room.
One.
Four people.
One room.
One RV.
For two months.
I adore my husband. I love my kids more than I love my own life. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to spend so much time together as a family, traveling the country and “living the dream”, as people keep saying.
But I cannot wait to listen to someone else breathe.
I can’t wait to watch someone new chew with their mouth open.
I am so looking forward to two cross country flights with me and my headphones and not a single familiar face for hours.
If you catch me spinning around in circles in the lobby of the Marriott with my arms flung wide shouting “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, I am free at last!,” you’ll understand why.
But don’t tell my husband, OK?
Because he’s still back in that RV with those same two kids.

I’m excited for you!! I can’t imagine, I’m sick of my kids right now and we are just in the same HOUSE!

I’m jealous, can I run away for a fews dayas too, I promise not to talk, breathe or get in your way, LOL. I totally understand how you feel.
LOL! I know you understand your husband will need a break when you get back, but don’t forget your kids need a break too. Some of my fondest memories are being away at summer camp…I needed a place to be ME without three brothers (or parents) in tow. And one of the best gifts I ever got from my grandparents was time alone with them…a day or sometimes even a weekend. Just me and them. They did this with each of us and it’s something I plan to do with my grandkids.
Given your plans for this year it’s going to be tricky, but consider finding ways for the kids to get away too. It’s good for everybody!
I get it. I’m going to a busines conference in 13 days ALL BY MYSELF and I also can’t wait. And I only have to listen to my family breathe during the day. It’s so exciting to go where no one’s going to call you Mom or Mommy, you don’t have to cook a meal or wash a dish or worry about anyone’s needs but your own. It’s fan-freaking-tastic. And someone will make the bed for YOU. Have a FABULOUS time!!!!
