I am kind of a minimalist right now. I mean, I have a minimal amount of clothing and only six pairs of shoes, two of which are flip flops. When you decide to move into an RV for a year, you give up the luxury of lots of shoes and clothes.
(And if you think that six pairs of shoes is a lot, well, you’re wrong.)
Normally, I’m totally OK with this pared down lifestyle. I don’t spend a lot of time agonizing over what to wear and I spend a ridiculously small percentage of my time cleaning. If it wasn’t for the two kids I brought along with me, I’d probably never have to clean. Yes, minimalism and life in an RV have their benefits.
Among those benefits, however, is not the ability to easily get dressed up for a party. Several days worth of parties is absolutely impossible. It’s like campground folk don’t go to nightclubs all the time or something!
OK, fine, I don’t go to nightclubs either, but I am going to BlogHer, where people will be dressed in photo-worthy clothing, no matter how many posts they write about being comfortable.
You guys, there’s comfortable, and then there’s two pairs of flip-flops and a wardrobe primarily made up of T-shirts.
Thankfully, I always have the Internet to tell me how to solve any problem. I did a little googling and have come up with 8 brilliant ways to glam up my RVing wardrobe for BlogHer 11 in San Diego. Ready? Behold, the genius!
3 Ways to Glam Up Your Minimalist Outfit
1. Add a Statement Necklace
Everyone knows that accessories are the easiest way to add flair to any outfit. I’m thinking that the more ho-hum an outfit, the more glam the necklace should be. Luckily, I recently stumbled on this little beauty during my visit to DC:
I’ll be making a statement, alright! (And possibly using an alias.)
2. Wear a Headpiece.
Remember when your mother used to put pretty bows on top of your head? No? Well if she had, no one would have paid any attention to that god-awful pilgrim collar she sent you to school in for picture day. Lesson learned: headpieces draw the eye up and away from an otherwise plain wardrobe.
3. Glam Up Your Makeup.
No one is going to BlogHer (or any other party) to see what you’re wearing (unless we’re talking about the Oscars or BlogHer or the People’s Choice Awards or something) – they’re way more interested in seeing your smiling face! Shine the spotlight where it matters.
I’ll probably add a little blue shadow though to bring out my eyes. Obviously.
What little bit of fabulous will you be bringing to BlogHer? I hope we’re not wearing the same headpiece!

Not going to blogher but your simplistic lifestyle sure does sound appealing to me. Limited wardrobe (and most of it comfy) and little house cleaning sounds divine. I HAVE the limited wardrobe but struggle daily with the whole housework thing. Sigh, and I love to travel.
Have fun at Blogher and can’t wait to see pics of you wearing the Hope Diamond ;)
I’m now freaking out that I have NOTHING TO WEAR TO ANY OF THE PARTIES. Also, how much sparkle do I need for Sparklecorn? I missed that party last year!
Does a baseball cap count as a headpiece? That was extent of my BlogHer wardrobe plan.
