Channeling Eartha Kitt, the Aiming Low Way

Eartha Kitt CatwomanHey, you. Is life looking a little grey? A little same-old-same-old?

Boo, what you need is a little mojo injection. A shot of something good and powerful. Some sweet inspiration to buoy you along–but without costing you too much perspiration. I’m here today to give you an Rx for your blues: an instant inspiration gift box so that you can channel some electro-juice into your day, the Aiming Low way. I’ve done the research, you just have to dive into the goodness, maybe print out a photo for your bathroom mirror or to tuck into your bra, and then feel the immediate osmotic effects of radness–without even taking off your pajama jeans.

Just what you needed? I know! You’re welcome!  Here’s how to make it happen.

Today’s Icon of Inspiration: The Divine Ms. Eartha Kitt

Who? What? Huh?: The late actress set fire to hearts with her sultry voice and wicked acting skills. Grammy, Tony and Emmy nominations and international admirers fell at her feet for good reason. Gorgeous, talented and intelligent, her memory lives through her thrilling performances… just listen to Santa Baby or view a clip of her as Catwoman and feel the heat.

Why she’s good medicine: At eight she was sent away from home after being rejected, isolated and bullied as a mixed-race child. She landed with an aunt in Harlem and never looked back–she also never let the way she was treated define her. She a triumph, fierce and in absolute command of every molecule around her, including the very air her audience breathes. In those moments when it’s time to let your talent soar unabashedly, or to take sexual power, or to just kick ass like the divine Catwoman that you are, think of Eartha Kitt. Rrrrrrrawr!

Easy steps to releasing your inner Eartha:

1. Odds are you simply aren’t purring, meowing, growling and roaring enough. Ask yourself: have I made a cat noise today? You’ve probably have wondered why all of these people EXCEPT YOU are propositioned by hawt UPS guys and their kids’ Columbian soccer coaches and random cucumber-buying people in the produce aisle. It’s the cat noises. Give it a try, right now. Meow. Trill your r’s. see what I mean? Purrrfect.

2. Those pretty clothes in your closet? Special occasion silky stuff? That cami that makes your tits look amazing? Museum-quality boots you had no business buying? Hell, a self-fashioned plastic cling wrap bustier if that’s what rocks you. Go put them on. Lounge on your couch or pout into your mirror and shoot some glamorous, dangerous self portraits. It’s getting better already.

3. Put her music on. Easy as that. Sing along, or just slink until you feel Eartha through and through.

What’s your favorite Eartha Kitt medicine? If you don’t say, I’ll assume the cat’s got your tongue. Meowww!

  1. Well, it’s not seductive but the poem from her site that her daughter wrote is the medicine that makes me smile. Here’s a copy to enjoy:

Guess you were listening after all
I asked for you and you answered my call.
I heard your voice and then saw your face
Not far away from where I keep your space.
You looked so good, your voice sounded so strong
It’s hard to believe you’ve been gone for so long.
I sat, watching you there, up on the screen
My eyes filled with tears as you went through the scene.
Your presence was so real that it made me upset
I just wanted to grab on to that big TV set.
Oh, how I miss you, even more every day
With each step I feel fear as I make my own way.
Mom, I must thank you for hearing my plea
Knowing how much seeing you there meant to me.
Feeling you with me, gives me reason to say
That today was a truly memorable Mother’s Day.

    ~ Kitt Shapiro, on Mother’s Day 2010
