Gettin’ Mah Hair Did

I’m an emotional hair cutter. That doesn’t mean when I get angry I take to the scissors… but I love the surge of confidence a haircut gives me, so I tend to go when I’m upset, or feeling generally blah about life, or stressed, etc. It’s way better than a massage or a manicure for me. There’s something lasting about a good haircut that makes it the perfect therapy.

Anyway I’ve been thinking about getting a haircut for a couple of weeks now, and I think I need your advice. I’m not afraid of color or cut – it’s just hair, and it’ll grow out / grow back / whatever..

This is me right now:

Ignore the lifeless drab style. It's bedtime!

It does get curly at the bottom a bit. Mostly wavy.

My husband likes it long but when it’s short enough that it doesn’t quite fit into a ponytail – or shorter – I tend to actually spend time styling it.

So what do you think? What cut suits me? Link up to pics if you can!

Well… I’d say some long layers to frame your face. With long bangs. Keep the back long and you won’t have to fool with it, but you’ll have the shorter pieces in front to style. Compromise. :)

If you have natural body and waves, longer layers, esp in front would be so pretty (and easy) for you (just keep the length!) And maybe some sideswept bangs?

  3. Dude, I always crisis cut. Crisis color. You name it. My hair is past my shoulders right now…IMA SO ITCHING TO CHOP IT OFF.

    Ahem.

You need some long layers to give it shape and bounce. Then color it with some warm caramel highlights or something.

  4. Do something different! Get that haircut that you’ve always liked but haven’t had the balls to attempt. Some side swept bangs would look really cute.

If you have an iPhone, get this app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hairstyle/id293146044?mt=8. That’s what I used when I was looking for a new hairstyle recently. Not only did it help me decide what would look good on me, but it helped to communicate to my new stylist as well.

Yes, that’s right. I got a new hair style and a new stylist at the same time. Living on the edge!

A few times in my life I have had the kind of stylist who KNOWS what to do and suggests it. Sometimes a complete change or just a new color. I was always amazed that something I had never imagined could look so good!

Do you have a stylist you trust to suggest something? (I don’t but wish I did about now!) A great stylist will know what cut and color can best emphasize features you should play up. Good luck :)

  7. Haha thanks for validating what I thought was true for me only (I’ve been feeling weird about rushing to have my hair cut only when depressed, stressed or very angry). Maybe it makes me feel like clearing my brain’s cache memory?

Why not try something very short? At least short enough so you won’t have to tie or style it. That is, if you’re looking for a low-maintenance hairstyle. Otherwise, forget my suggestion. I can understand or will try to understand anything technical but I never understand my hair or other people’s hair.
