HP EZPZ Business Cards

Depending on whether you’re a personal blogger or you’re actually building an online empire, I feel confident saying that many bloggers, whether for their own personal use, to make use of a coupon from VistaPrint or to carry to a blogging conference, have had some business cards made up.

Business cards can be pretty pricey though, and if you are just printing some up to use at a blogger meetup for a small conference, or if you are just starting blogging, you may not want to / be able to put in the investment to have professional cards designed & printed.

Step 1: Prep Your Main Image(s)

Edit away!

If you have a JPG of your blog logo or a headshot (or, hell, a photo you don’t hate!), grab that and head over to Picnik. In Picnik, crop, resize, rotate and add effects to your logo/image to your heart’s desire.

Step 2:  Choose a Layout

A number of places online offer templates that can be used with their business card stock – already perforated for easy printing & separating – in a variety of layouts. If you happen to have a new HP printer, you can use the HP Creative Studio, which has a number of free business card templates for use as well. Don’t worry about whether the Cleaning Business Cards will work for you, because that picture doesn’t fit your site. Think of those images on the templates as placeholders; you can remove & change them out. What you’re really concerned about here is layout. I picked a wedding-type layout, doesn’t match my site at all but I love the simplicity and I can exchange that swirl for my headshot – totally changes the look of the card.

Download the template and open it up in a word processor to edit. You can also download basic business card templates from within Word and possibly Pages.

Step 3: Add Your Info & Images

Once you’ve opened the template, delete any images from the first card – top left – that you want to replace, and insert your own image. Then update the information to reflect your blog name, URL, email, etc. Now from here, the easiest thing to do is to highlight the business card you’ve completed, copy it, then highlight everything on the page and delete. Now you have a completely blank template, and can place your cursor in each box and hit CTRL+V or right-click Paste to put your card in each box. Remember you only have to do this for one page – then you can just print 100 copies of that page! :)

Step 4: Print the Business Cards

Now you just need to print & separate the cards. Office supply stores carry  pre-perforated business card stock that you can load directly into your printer for printing. I recommend doing a quick test on regular office paper first to be sure you know which side gets printed on, what way things are facing, etc. Then just load the paper, print as many copies as you need, separate and you’re good to go. Woohoo!
