Every year I look forward to the time when three radio stations in the Cleveland area play nothing but Christmas songs.
As my girls have gotten older they have expressed their opinions on the fact that the radio dial is always set to Christmas music in December.
When they were younger this wasn’t a problem as they sat in the back and changing the station on the radio was something that they didn’t do. Now they are older, sit up front and have no problem switching the station if I hop out of the car for a minute.
Sometimes I notice right away, other times I am singing along to a song on the radio when I realize that this isn’t a Christmas Carol and that this isn’t even a station that I have programmed into my radio.
One afternoon while driving around I decided to try out this contraption I have for my iPhone in the van.
I was in heaven. Christmas carols on the radio and if I didn’t like them I could just give them the thumbs down or just skip them on Pandora. Then Amy Grant came on, then she came on again and again. I ran out of thumbs downs and skips until I decided to change the station.
It was amazing the amount of stations that they had for Christmas music. Swinging Christmas. Jazzy Holidays. Traditional Christmas. Pure & Simple Christmas.
My children groaned and I squeed with glee while my husband was driving. Just think, I could listen to holiday music all the year through.
While I may not listen to Christmas much all through 2011 I think that next year I am going to make my own Christmas music stations on Pandora, just for my girls. Shut up and like it Christmas. These aren’t your Christmas favorites. A Little Less Annoying Holidays.
So, what’s your favorite holiday tune?

I love Christmas music. Sadly, I don’t have a radio in my van after some idiotic thief stole HALF of it. Yes, half. Just the facing. Smart criminals would be scarier, though, right?

we had an idiot do the same to us in our old car. It was crazy. We replaced it and it happened AGAIN!

I just asked my husband tonight if people still steal radios now that detachable faces are pretty the standard. Guess that answers that question. Dummies.

Bruce Springsteen!!! Best holiday version EVER!

hmmm, I will have to check out Bruce Springsteen holiday music…you know in the middle of Feb, to really annoy the heck out of my girls!

Do They Know It’s Christmas? CLASSIC!

Sadly yes, my children like the rockin’ booty music (as my husband calls it) instead of the happy holiday stuff.

Awesome! Pandora pretty much rocks, and I think “Shut Up & Like it Christmas” will be a popular station.

I knew I should have taken the girls eye rolls when I mentioned that station as a positive!

Adam Sandler rocks the hell out of the Hanukkah song, IMHO.

The girls do like that song….okay, me too.

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by the cast of Glee.
You see, the problem with Pandora is that I ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW THE NEXT SONG. Like, I can’t just listen to the song it’s currently on without wondering if the next song is even more awesome. And then I run out of thumbs down and I just turn it off.
What do you think that says about me?

I like singing carols, but I just can’t handle hearing Christmas music on the radio. I managed to avoid being in situations where they were playing this Christmas, with a few exceptions. And–surprise!–because I hadn’t had the opportunity to get sick of them, I actually kind of enjoyed the few I heard.
My favorite? Elvis’s “Santa Claus Is Back in Town.”

Ahhh, Elvis.
I am glad you enjoyed the few you heard. I think I could listen to Christmas music year round and never tire of it. I blame all of my years in choir when we practiced those kinds of songs all year long to get it right at competition.
