EZ-PZ Holiday Valium

I am all about some sweets. Obviously. And holiday time sweets always seem to taste better, a little more decadent. These wonderful morsels of delight blend some strange ingredients into what I liken to holiday valium. Pop a few of these in your mouth with a glass of wine and all your troubles will float away. Straight to your ass. Some people call this holiday crack. Perhaps that’s why.

It is so simple that I hereby declare it EZ-PZ !

*2 sticks of butter {NOT margarine – you can use salted or not, depends on your taste)

*1 cup sugar (use brown if you prefer a toffee flavor)

*1 sleeve of saltines

*12 oz milk chocolate chips {or any flavor chips – white chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter, etc. . .}

*optional – 1 cup of nuts {any kind

Heat oven to 400. Line a cookie sheet with foil. Then line with crackers. Boil butter and sugar for about 3 minutes – stirring the entire time. Pour the mixture on and spread over crackers. Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes. Remove the cookie sheet and pour chips over crackers and spread as they melt. If you add nuts, immediately sprinkle them and press into chocolate. Cool in refrigerator on cookie sheet to harden. Break into pieces and prepare to sink into an ocean of salty/sweet goodness.

( I have used light brown sugar and Heath Bit’s Of Brickle chips and OMG. Toffee tonguegasm.)

I have a recipe much like this. It calls for butter, granulated sugar, nuts, and butter crackers (such as Club crackers) We like the salty/sweet combo. But for sure, they are like crack. Once you start eating them its impossible to stop.

A few suggestions to keep it easy:
1.) A throwaway cookie sheet is awesome for these. If the sauce gets on stuff it’s a pain in the neck to get off

2.) Lay out wax paper to cool them on. They’re really not good to eat until they cool (b/c they’re soggy at first) and they can make a sticky mess. Wax paper makes it all better

3.) Store them in single layers between sheets of wax paper.

  3. I would like to stuff my face with your crack.

I’m excited. We have all those ingredients except the chocolate chips here at work. I’m getting a bag at lunch and making these before I leave work today for a fabulous snack later. yum.

OMG – Holiday Crack indeed!! My daughter’s piano teacher made these for the recital one year. DH and I hovered around the tray till they were gone. The next week, I made some – and promptly lost the recipe. Thankx for bringing it back to me -obviously my *ss is not yet bit enough. . .

worst part is it takes no time to make which creates a huge crate of that stuff in no time. Dangerous. Very dangerous

I made these with white chocolate and sprinkled crushed peppermint instead of nuts. My co-workers think I’m amazing and I owe it all to you!

  9. Hmm, I don’t suppose anyone knows a good alternative to saltines that I can get in the UK, do they? Pretty please? This recipe sounds lovely and I like to shake my diabetes up every once in a while!

  10. Did some quick research for my UK low aiming sisters, you can get these things called Doriano crackers from Tesco (but apparently, the ones in Waitrose aren’t the same, they have to be from Tesco?!) and they are almost identical to Saltines.

    Just so you know!

I’ve made something similar to these, but with graham crackers instead, which were delicious. But I’ll give the saltines/club crackers a try.

Interesting, I bake mine for 17 minutes in the oven…not 5!! i use crushed pecans as the nuts…oh yes, they are bliss. EVERYONE who tries them wants the recipe. I can blow through a batch by myself in a week, easily.
