Here are two important facts about me:
1. I work from home.
2. My daughter, at four years old, is more digitally savvy than my husband.
My daughter is in school until 3pm every day, but alas, my work for the day isn’t always finished by then. She often likes to hang out in the office with me, coloring and cutting and gluing things. She particularly enjoys cutting out pictures from her coloring books, putting them all on a page together to tell a story. Sadly, she runs out of coloring books at a remarkable fast rate because of this habit.
Usually I would just visit the dollar store to buy more coloring books (hey, if you don’t mind the princesses having slightly funky faces, this can be a lifesaver). But a couple of weeks ago, the unthinkable happened: I had tons of work to do, and she had zero coloring books.
Luckily, I now have the most awesome, awesome printer in the universe: the HP Officejet Pro 8500A.
It’s amazing simply because it’s wireless, first of all: we can be downstairs on our laptops and hit print and whatever we’re printing appears in the printer bin upstairs. But what I really love? Is the apps. Yes, apps on a printer.
After five minutes of training – seriously, my kid is SMART about gadgets – my daughter can search for, select, and print coloring pages from Disney, Nick, and more. While I work, she can print page after page of things to color and cut out. It literally occupies her for hours.
I love this printer. So, so much.
Of course, because of this, we’re going to run out of printer ink at the speed of light. Luckily, HP printer ink is 50% less expensive than other inks.
Thank GOD.

Wait a sec. You can go on the internet and print stuff directly from sites? I have the 7500…which is wireless, can I do that too?

So, can you send your daughter to my house to teach me how to use the apps on *my* printer. Or maybe just print the stuff out for my daughter? I live near Disney World. Think about it.

Your four-year-old sits quietly and colors while you work–for hours??! Forget the printer, it’s your daughter who’s heaven-sent!
I have a similar printer in the HP family, and I LOVE IT!!!

She’s one step closer to being able to do your work for you. That’s the way to raise ‘em!

HP sounds a lot cheaper than my babysitter. Good idea
If you live near a walgreens, get your ink refilled there. It’s $13 per cartridge and they can do it while you shop. My husband keeps a ‘new’ cartridge to use when printing off stuff for class, because we have had one refill that printed a bit blurry, but the refilled cartridges are perfect for the kids schoolwork and my recipe and coupon printing.
