EZPZ Pineapple Slicing

While other bloggers are bringing you recipes with pumpkin and sage in them I’m busy showing you how to slice up a pineapple. Some might say I’m taking the whole title of “Aiming Low” too seriously, but I laugh at those people. That and I happen to have a pineapple that needs slicing, because pineapple is my favorite fruit and the fresh whole ones are considerably less expensive and more tasty than the ones that come in a can.
Many people are intimidated by the prickly pineapple, but unless you are thinking about trying to give birth to one, set your fears aside. Chop one up! You’ll need:
A pineapple
A good long knife
A cutting board
A container for your freshly sliced fruit

Start out by laying the pineapple on its side and slicing off the top and the bottom. You’ll end up with this:
Discard the top and the bottom and stand the fruit up again so you can slice off the prickly sides- just kind of rotate it around and slice the “skin” off:
So now you have a naked pineapple- it has no top or bottom (boo-yah!) and it is missing its skin. Sad, sad pineapple. Now put it back on its side and slice it as thick as you would like it, like a loaf of bread:
You are almost done! If all of your fingers are still attached you will soon be enjoying delicious chunks of pineapple. Just take each “slice” and slice it into thirds (give or take) in both directions, and remove the center piece which is the not-so-tasty core :
Don’t worry if the pieces are not even (they won’t be) and you can trim off any tough spots where the skin didn’t quite come off. Complete this until you have a bowl full of pineapple. Just in time for Halloween!

i usually use one of those apple corer tools for the core, you just need to punch it through a couple times and you can get rid of the core and keep your pineapple in rings

i was just slicing pineapple a couple hours ago. i wish i would’ve seen this post before that. pineapple is one of my faves as well and i’d rather slice a pineapple any day than a pumpkin. thanks for making it all ezpz!

    quite illustrative.

now can you tell me why when i eat pineapple in excess (which is the only way i eat it), my mouth hurts…

  8. Kyooty/Mary says:

So you paid for the weight of the pinapple with all that fluff and sides? and then just threw it out?

  9. Heather says:

Or you could always get the Pampered Chef’s pineapple corer/slicer. It’s just like the ones for apples, only bigger. It gets the core, and the skin off, and leaves you with 2 halves that just need chopped.

  10. I would like to state that THIS entry made me feel ballsy enough to buy and slice a pineapple, my fiance’s favorite fruit.

I am a goddess now. You guys are awesome. ;)
