Celebrity Houseguests

blissdom167I recently recapped a conversation I had with my mom to my husband, Graham.

“So I was talking to Mom today and she asked me how you felt about the fact that she was coming to stay at our house,” I began.

“Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah, I sort of just started to laugh when she asked me that,” I continued.

“What’d she say to that?” he asked me.

“Well, I just reminded her that she IS your mother-in-law and that she’d be, you know, STAYING at our house. What would she expect? She understood,” I explained to him.

“Yeah, there’s really nobody I’d be excited to have staying in my house, not even my own mother” my husband went on to explain.

I knew what he meant. You can never just be completely yourself when there are guests staying at your house, no matter how close to you they are. Family, friends, whoever it is, it’s not like you can roam the halls in the buff while they’re just down the hallway in the spare room. They eat your food. They drink your beer. Rarely can any good come of having houseguests, really.

This got me thinking…who WOULD you be excited to have as a houseguest? I asked Graham this very question. His answer caught me by surprise.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger,” he replied without skipping a beat. I knew why. Graham never passes up an opportunity to do his best Governator impersonation.

“Or Pamela Anderson,” he went on.

“All right, I get it…although you’re right, she would be an interesting house guest. You’d never be bored.”

“What about Lauren Graham. You’d like to have her stay with us, right?”

He laughed. He loves Lorelai Gilmore. I call her his television girlfriend.

“Right.”

A few seconds of silence ticked by.

“I bet Vince Vaughn would be fun to have stay,” I decided. “He seems like he’d be a lot of fun.”

Graham thought about this for a moment or two.

“Yeah, but I bet he’d get annoying after awhile,” he said.

“You think so?” I asked.

“Totally. You’d probably have to kick him out.”

“Definitely,” I agreed.

I just hope that when it comes to my mom visiting, I didn’t give him any funny ideas…
