One of my favorite treats and splurges is taking my kids through the automated car wash.
(Aiming Low at it’s best baby.. forget theme parks.. the car wash is where it’s at)
Our car wash has that tri-color wax that it sprays on and my kids ooh and aaaah over the colors and the water spraying heavily over the windows and the sun-roof.
The sun-roof.
Dear Everyone With a Sun Roof:
IF you, like I, enjoy taking your kids through the car wash.. and if you, like I, have been known to occasionally let your 3 year old play with the automatic sunroof while you sit in the sweltering heat waiting to pick your 5 year old from kindergarten; please make sure that YOU CHECK THE SUNROOF before driving through the car wash the next time.
Because, and I totally don’t know this from experience might imagine that it’s possible that one’s 3 year old might not completely close the sun roof. And there’s a possiblity that the first BLAST from the SUPER HOLY CRAP HIGH POWERED sprayers might possibly cause it to rain in your car.
This has been your Car Safety PSA for today.
Brought to you by the young heathen 3 year old determined to drive me bonkers 3 year old Monkey and his somewhat damp Mommy.

I totally just used the car wash as entertainment the other day! We had a window experience with rain as well…but hey, if that’s the way I have to clean the inside of my car (and my kids)—it’s like a 2 for 1 special!

@Heather, I am so glad that I’m not the ONLY one who uses the carwash as entertainment ;-)
HA! That totally sounds like something I would do. You know…if I wasn’t afraid of car washes. Yeah…I have issues!

@kpotterb, I want to hear more about being afraid of carwashes..
@rachel-asouthernfairytale, uh, well, I have this crazy phobia that makes me think part of the car wash parts(like the ginormous, mangy brushes) are going to come off and attack. And me, stuck in the car because the sign still says “STOP”. It’s called a phobia for a reason, right? They are not sane!

You realize that the kids might be bored with a plain old carwash now? They are going to expect rainbow rain!

@laurinevans, I wonder if you can do that at home? :-) Of course now, I’m super paranoid about open sunroofs ;-)
My nephew used to love the regular drive thru car wash, until we took him to the one where you do it yourself with the big water guns. Now he wants to go there — even if it’s freezing outside.

@Libby, Those are fun! But, I always end up with soaking wet feet and I’m not tall enough to REALLY get the top of my SUV. Thus, my reasoning for the drive thru one :-) (wink)
Haha did that freak ‘em out? I’d be telling everyone that I just wanted to clean the inside of the car, too. It’s multi-tasking.

@Assertagirl, Monkey thought it was funny that I was damp. Princess was at school :-) We haven’t told Daddy about it yet :-) Exactly.. multi-tasking…
Me=cheap so OMG this is so going on the list of things to do with the kid! ;)
@Lisa, Cheap is awesome.. Cheap is the new bling :-) and it’s not cheap.. it’s smart and frugal. shhh :-)
Must remind hubbie about this one, new car has a sunroof.
@kyooty, yes. ALWAYS make sure the sunroof is CLOSED 100% it’s not a nice surprise.
I have never gone through with the sunroof before, but definitely with a window or two slightly down. Kind of kills a good hair day.

@toywithme, oh noes! The windows down! That might be worse!!!!
Do you need a car to do this with the kids? Oh. Crap.
my kids are terrified of the car wash. this would give them nightmares for months!!!!

@ali, My son was up until about 6 months ago (he’s 3 now) I could never take him through. NOw, he’s fascinated.
*grin* Good times.
