When I heard about the concept of aiming low I was intrigued. I wanted to submit a post because who more than me aims low- but about what?
It took me a good 5 seconds before I got it.
Sweeping.
Oh how I loathe it.
I look at that broom in all of its bristle glory and I despise it. I usually put off sweeping the floor as much as humanly possible. But I’m a mom now, and when coffee grinds spill all over your floor and your children are licking it up, you need to do something about it I suppose.
I even tried to buy a leopard print broom, you know- to make it more attractive. Maybe it will make me a sweeping machine? I thought to myself at the checkout counter.
No such luck.
When I have no choice, I sweep. Unfortunately for my husband, all I do it sweep the mess to the side. I never actually use the dust pan to pick it up. So in reality, it’s still there- it just resides in one little area of the kitchen.
I don’t know why I do this.
I mean, is it so hard to get the dusting pan and pick the mess up?
Yes.
Yes it is.
Even though my house is in disarray 97% of the time, I just do NOT have the energy.
I mean, why clean if it’s going to get dirty again? Is there really a point?
So by sweeping the mess to the side, I am making a concentrated effort to partake in the family chores- just not commit to them fully.
My girls may eat a dirty cheerio from time to time, but wont that just make them stronger?
Thank you to Maya for this Three Day Weekend submission! Maya blogs about her fabulous life and gorgeous twins at Gemini Girl.

A dirty cheerio never hurt anyone! And having to use the dustpan is why I vacuum the hard floors. ;)

Be glad you have kids. Since I don’t, I just let the grinds sit there “until they dry” and are easier to sweep up. True story.
I have one of the Dirt Devil Broom Vacs. Totally worth the investment because it does all the work for you.
Builds up their immune system. That’s what I tell myself.

I’ve heard that a little dirt builds character. Or something like that. I hate sweeping too; I make my older kids do it.

You DID. NOT. buy a leopard print broom. Is that even possible?!
Also? Swiffer is your friend. Get two and let each of the girls push it around your house. Will save you the work of doing, will teach the girls to enjoy doing it (at least for now) and will keep some of the hair and crumbs from getting stuck to your feet.
Go. Now.

I don’t mind sweeping….its the mopping that annoys me because it requires me to sweep beforehand. Sweeping is its own thing. It doesn’t require you to work before you do it. You just do it. And if you don’t put it in the dustpan…no biggie. It’ll get in to the trash eventually. :-)

I don’t sweep, I just vacuum. Way way easier. Viva la Dyson.
I have been known to sweep crumbs under the oven in order to not have to go get the dustpan and bend over – no joke. I totally understand.
when we got a new oven & dishwasher, my crumb hiding place was revealed. IT. WAS. DISGUSTING.
So now I vacuum. MUCH easier.

I with you on sweeping. sucks. I swear by the Swiffer, but it doesn’t always get the crumbs. That’s when I break out the sticky tape lint roller. YEP. doesn’t get it all but it’s better than nothin.
